VistA as a Core EHR System: DoD MEDICS RFI

I mentioned last week that VA is preparing a white paper in to provide market research information for DoD's MEDICS RFI. Attached is a draft of the paper. VA is obviously not a vendor and wouldn't prepare or submit a traditional proposal-based RFI response. But we that that there are 3 things that we might communicate, and that we are uniquely positioned to communicate: - A vendor-neutral view of VistA. (Not that vendor-specific views are bad - quite the opposite; we hope that there will be many vendor-specific responses to this RFI!) - A summary of VA's large enterprise deployment of VistA, demonstrating that VistA can easily address DoD's scale requirements - A brief statement of VistA-related platforms (like My HealtheVet, the Connected in Health mobile platform, and hi2's Health Management Platform) that can be built to amplify the power of VistA Your comments and feedback are welcome. We will finalize this document early next week (before the February 27th RFI submission deadline).  This paper is not meant to replace or duplicate any other responses. We sincerely hope that there will be an OSEHRA response that discusses the benefit of an open source EHR supported by an active open source community and multiple vendor responses that describe proposals for deployment of a VistA-based EHRS. Regards,Mike O'Neill
