We've been working with OSEHRA to set up the Forum patching infrastructure we're going to use to release our patches through OSEHRA. That is likely to take some more weeks, maybe even a month or two, to get fully ready. In the meantime, we're going to release the first patches to Fileman 22.2 independently, so we can work in parallel with the OSEHRA Forum-building work.
When the OSEHRA Forum is ready, it will use the numberspace 10,000 for patch numbers and sequence numbers to make clear that this software stream is different from VA's Forum software stream (or any others, like IHS, if they eventually set up a Forum). So, for example, the first patch to Fileman 22.2 released from the OSEHRA Forum will probably be DI*22.2*10,001 SEQ #10,001.
In the meantime, while we're developing the infrastructure and processes to do that, we'll release DI*22.2*1 SEQ #1 from our temporary Forum system in the Fileman development environments; most likely, we'll get a few patches released in the 1, 2, 3 numbering before OSEHRA Forum is ready.
When OSEHRA Forum is ready, we will release the exact same patches in quick succession to bring that stream up to speed with our temporary Fileman 22.2 patch stream, but numbered 10,001, 10,002, etc. - with one difference. We will add an environment check that will detect if a site has already installed DI*22.2*1 (say, in patch DI*22.2*10001). If not, it will go ahead with the install. If it has, then the install will change no software because the site already has the content, but it will still update the Build and Install files to make clear the patch has been installed; this will prevent sites from rolling backwards as a result of installing, say, #10,001 after #3. That is, sites that never installed the 1, 2, 3 patches will only have 10,001, 10,002, 10,003 patches in their Build and Install files, but those that did will have both with no problems.
After the OSEHRA Forum system is up and running, we will shut down the temporary Forum. So, for example, if we end up releasing three patches through our temporary Forum in the time it takes to bring up OSEHRA Forum, then the temporary patch stream will never release a fourth patch, whereas all three of those patches plus all future ones will come out through the OSEHRA Forum.
This approach will allow us to make progress with Fileman 22.2 while we're doing this infrastructure investment with OSEHRA, all in a way that works equally well for those who want to proceed with patches now and for those who choose to wait for the OSEHRA Forum stream.
