I am writing from the Cold Spring Harbor Lab, where I am in the 'Advanced Sequencing' program, led by Elaine Mardis (Washington University), Dick McCombie (CSHL), Mike Zody (Broad Institute) and others. We have a great course wiki, and I have the outline of one I would like to post for this group.
I have not been that engaged in recent times, after seeing folks from EPIC taking photos in the Pentagon for the MEDICS EHR, and what I view as a bias towards either EPIC or HP Federal IT on the part of DoD, which will then become, by default, the VA's EHR. I am not trying to belittle any commercial vendor, just have been wondering were VistA and our great open source community fits into the future with the VA.
Also- the Genomics Committee of the Million Veteran Program was going to meet in October, but that got cancelled due to the sequester, so if anyone knows when the next meeting, please let us know. It is supposed to be posted in the Federal Register and is an open meeting, and interested parties should be able to attend. When I find out, I will post this information here so that interested folks may attend.
Finally, I really get moving on an active 'Precision Medicine' group (title suggested by the talented Conrad Clyburn), which would probably include some of the current members, although I would like to encourage anyone, espevially from industry or ONCHIT to actively participate in a bi-weekly WebEx that I need some help from OSEHRA to set-up...
