Community Vision and Strategy Work Group
In January, OSEHRA and sponsoring member DSS launched a Community Vision and Strategy Work Group to capture the community’s future strategy and provide a clear recommendation for the future of healthcare IT (both inside and outside VA). We are encouraged by the participation of our communities and their insightful suggestions and vision of what the ecosystem should look like going forward. Work is proceeding on a final draft of the document, with a target completion date in late February.
VA Contract Update
OSEHRA has completed the first year of our contract and VA has exercised Option Year One, which will run through February 2018. During the past year, our team has identified hundreds of potential candidates, and some have been queued up for VA intake after being analyzed, certified, and prioritized. The March Innovation Webinar will feature a review our progress during Year 1, and will provide a glimpse into the plans for the coming year. Additionally, the VistA Security TWG (chartered via the VA Contract) is developing a Security Strategy Document to give guidance on securing an instance of VistA. The
group is currently reviewing the document and plans to release it in March 2017. Please stay updated with all facets of the contract through the contract page on our website.
The creation of a new Pharmacy Technical Working Group will provide a forum for VHA Pharmacy stakeholders and other open source community members to identify gaps and shortfalls in the pharmacy module of VA's VistA EHR. Particular emphasis is being placed on development strategies and solutions for a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Working group members will collaborate on requirements and a shared vision for enhanced clinical decision support within the pharmacy systems. Additionally, the group will allow these stakeholders to communicate requirements to the open source community. Further
information on this TWG and an invitation to prospective members will be coming soon.
OSEHRA and Zato Health Fund Meaningful Use Certification of popHealth 5.0
OSEHRA and Zato Health have joined forces to fund the certification of popHealth v5.0 for the 2015 edition EHR module - criteria 170.315(c)(2)-(c)(4). The certification testing by InfoGard, an ONC-Authorized Certification Body, is expected to be completed by end of February 2017. This will allow popHealth to be included as a certified EHR module in stage 3 EHR Incentive Program attestation.
OSEHRA is proud to welcome three new Organizational Members: Microsoft, HIRS, and Zato Health! Links to their respective websites can be found in the sidebar. We look forward to their active participation and are excited about the positive contributions they will make in the open source community.
OSEHRA Provides VistA Training for Potential Korean Implementers
In early 2017 OSEHRA designed and delivered a set of six VistA Primer training sessions to support the growing Korean interest in implementing VistA. Topics included a MUMPS tutorial, navigating and configuring VistA, VistA and Service Oriented Capabilities, and eHMP. This package of materials will be made available to OSEHRA
Updates to HQ Staff
Both Desereé Johnston and Mike Henderson departed from OSEHRA at the end of January, moving on to new opportunities. Desereé accepted an invitation to study at St. Andrews University in Scotland as part of her Georgetown degree program. Mike Henderson will be working full time for DSS, Inc. but will remain active in the OSEHRA Community. We wish them both the best in their new endeavors!
