Description:

Arya Rasouli, Senior Programmer Analyst, will discuss Johns Hopkins Oncology Clinical Information Systems.  Its software was founded back in the late 70s as a part of Oncology Clinical Information Systems for The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The design philosophy behind the clinical software was to be patient centric, protocol driven care oriented.

The webinar will elaborate on characteristics of the system:

  • It is MUMPS based and it uses a database management system and application development environment called "TEDIUM".
  • TEDIUM was designed to run on standard MUMPS. However, for most of them past 3 decades it's been running on InterSystems Cache.
  • TEDIUM is in many ways similar to FileMan. It uses dictionary driven strategy for software development and database maintenance. It generates MUMPS code based on programming specifications and cross-references the routines and database calls.
  • The software includes HL7 message processing engines for live interfaces as well as job management utilities, spoolers, and report writing mechanisms.
  • The applications historically included many EHR base functionalities, including admitting registration and appointment system. However, with the emergence of EPIC many of or basic EHR functionalities have moved to EPIC.

Arya will also discuss the interest in moving many of the existing software to public domain and possibly integrating it with VISTA to provide comprehensive functionality for any cancer center.
