Web of Data

The W3C's push to make data a first class citizen on the web has introduced a host of approaches ("Linked Data") and technologies (SPARQL, OWL, RDF, Microformats) for fully web-based distributed systems. As a highly data-centric system, VistA is a natural fit. This group will explore web-of-data approaches and technologies for VistA with a focus on how they can enable the next generation of VistA system development and expand the community of VistA developers. Reinvigoration of Semantic Interconnectedness

The VistA Expo 2013 is ongoing and we are finding a lot of interest around the exchange of healthcare information via semantic interchanges. To support this interest and restart the discussion on the OSEHRA site, we have just revived the "Web of Data" working group. If you are not currently a member, please consider joining our effort. If you are a member, consider posting some of your thoughts, work and comments!

Just to remind you, here is the group charter:

VA testing cash prizes to improve its health record system - FederalNewsRadio.com

Colleagues,

Please see and hear an interview released today by Federal News Radio on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) initiative to use contests as an important strategy to reduce risk in acquiring open source compatible health information technology.

In this interview, Roger Baker, CIO, VA, persuasively describes why this groundbreaking new way of doing business has important implications for the iEHR, VBMS and federal health IT acquisition strategy going forward ...

Web of Data Working Group will be Archived Tomorrow

Hello,

As you know, the OSEHRA Admin Team has been working to strealine working groups so that we can provide the most supportive tools to assist your efforts. To that end, the Web of Data working group will be archived tomorrow, January 10th.

However, we strongly encourage you to participate in other active groups that have a similar structure and goal as this one. We recommend the Architecture working group or another group that will fit your individual needs and interests.

Web of Data Working Group will be archived

Hello Web of Data Working Group,

The OSEHRA Admin team has begun implementing the Working Group Restructuring plan that was published on this website on September 5th, 2012. In accordance with that plan, this group will be archived so that previous discussions and postings will still be available to view but members will be unable to comment or edit any further.

If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please email Administration at hutchinsonr@osehra.org.

An open invitation to join the Fileman/Lab Agile Project (FLAP):

VA has recently funded a small project to be completed by T3 Tiger Tech, with sub-contracting provided by the VISTA Expertise Network. This project will use already-completed open-source improvements, and some new code, to create and distribute a new version of the VISTA File Manager (Fileman) package. This in turn will enable future development of VISTA Lab and Fileman.

SMART, VistA, and the Semantic Web

On the subject of VistA and the web of data, here's some background about SMART, a project to enable "substitutable" apps that run on multiple electronic health records systems, personal health records, data mining platforms, and health information exchanges.  We define a RESTful API to expose patient-level data using W3C's Resource Description Framework  -- and the WorldVistA team has built a prototype capable of running SMART Apps running on VistA!
