This week’s Architecture Work Group (AWG) Meeting featured guest speakers Ken Leonard, Senior PM/COR – EPMO and Health Data Products - VDIF for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Melanie Buechler, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Virtual Patient Record (VPR) developer. Both gave an excellent presentation on a new VPR tool that enables the extraction and transformation of VistA patient data into the Summary Document Architecture (SDA) format – an HL7 Clinical Document Architecture based intermediary data exchange format used by the InterSystems HealthShare platform. This innovative tool uses a scalable, table-driven mapping technique that significantly reduces the development effort required to map VistA patient data into SDA. For those interested in FHIR, this same tool can be used to map VistA patient data into FHIR format; all it takes is to create new entries in the table that provides the data transformation needed for FHIR data elements.

If you missed the meeting, presentation slides and the recording are now available. Thank you to Ken and Melanie!
