Study on Trends on adoption of EHRs in Small Practices


Although at OSEHRA we talk most often about the use of EHRs at the scale of large institutions such as VA, DoD and IHS, there is an equally important space of thousands of small clinical practices that are also in the process of adopting EHRs, many in response to the stimulus funds provided by the HITECH Act.


Among these myriad of small practices, there seems to be two typical cases of adoption:


  • Adopting an EHR to replace paper records

Just returned from a much improved AMIA Translational Bioinformatics meeting in SF. Some notes:

-Congratulations to the talented Joshua Denny, M.D., M.S., (Biomedical Informatics and Internal Medicine, Vanderbilt) on being asked to chair next year's meeting! Josh is on our advisory board, and he is working with myself, Ken Kawamoto, Aileen Hsueh and Brian Athey on a Natures Genetics Review - impact factor of >38!
